Upgrades

Sapphire Trend is upgraded via Installshield.  The upgrade process is very straightforward and consists of running the new Installshield twice.  The first execution will de-install the previous version and the second will install the new release.

Note:  When upgrading the Collector node all data collection will stop when the first run of the Installshield completes and will not restart until the second run of the Installshield has finished.  When the upgrade is complete, the Collector will be in a running state with the only 'gap' in its history being the period when the upgrade was performed.

Performing the Upgrade

To upgrade Sapphire Trend, perform the following steps:

Step 1.  Remove the currently installed version

Note:  A Windows MSI file is also available for download from the website.  Either file can be used interchangeably and the upgrade process is the same regardless of which is chosen.

Tip:  If the PC is part of a domain, then the domain administrators account should be used as the installation will create an account on the Primary Domain Controller.  If the PC is not part of a domain, then a local Administrators account should be used for the upgrade.

Note:  There is no need to manually stop the Collector service when upgrading a Collector node, the  Installshield will automatically stop the Collector as part of the de-installation process.

Note:  Even though the de-install is initiated from the new Installshield, it will actually run the Installshield for the currently installed version in order to remove the appropriate components from the host PC.

Step 2.  Installing the new version

Upgrade FAQ's:

No, Components from different releases will happily work together, for example a V5-4 stPro will run against a V6-3 Collector and vice versa, so you do not need to upgrade all your nodes at once.

No, all your existing data will be preserved although no new data will be collected during the upgrade process.

No reconfiguration will be required following the upgrade.

Yes, You will  need to repeat the upgrade process on each PC you wish to upgrade, whether that be a node running just the client components (i.e. stPro, stTabular History etc), or the Collector node.
