Charity Cycle Ride

Saturday 15th August saw Jemmac employee Lynne Mackley riding her bike for 52 miles for charity, in a race dubbed the "Battle of the Brave".

The event, organised by a neighbouring town, was in aid of the charities Leukaemia Research, The Anthony Nolan Trust and Willow Foundation.

Lynne said:

"The race was only actually 43 miles long but cycling to and from the start, plus a few miles of detour when we got lost pushed it up to 52 miles! That was at least twice as far as I've ever cycled before in a day but it was good fun".

"My time wasn't terribly impressive because we were cycling as a team of 5 so always had to go at the pace of the slowest, plus we got rather lost once and suffered 2 punctures. We also had to battle against 20mph winds all afternoon, which for some strange reason I never quite fathomed, always seemed to be blowing against us!"

In total, 45 cyclists took part in the bike ride and there were several other sponsored events as well. The organiser hoped that a total of £9000 was raised which will be split equally between the 3 charities.

The Anthony Nolan Trust were in attendance all day, taking blood samples of people who were willing to join the Anthony Nolan register of bone marrow donors. Lynne was sad to discover she was deemed "too old" to join the register!

Lynne raised £140 sponsorship from friends, which Jemmac happily doubled to £280 in recognition of her efforts.
